Real Estate
Real estate law has been one of the primary focuses of Birt & McNeill since our inception. We have assisted clients of all types, from first time home buyers to more experienced property owners, deal with the ever changing real estate and banking markets and their requirements. We represent clients who are purchasing a home or cottage property, vacant land, or a business property, as well as clients who are building their own homes, or contracting to have them built. We can review and prepare all types of real estate contracts, including contracts with builders and contractors, and we can assist with the completion of the documents for mortgages, secured lines of credit and other financing arrangements.
Estate Planning
Estate planning is a process many individuals and families are beginning earlier in their lives and is something Birt & McNeill has been assisting clients with for years. We provide legal advice on all aspects of estate planning including will and testamentary planning, powers of attorney, and health care directives. We are also able to help identify suitable executors, set up family or spousal trusts, and make arrangements for charitable contributions and other specific bequests.
Adoption
Kim M. McNeill is a licensed adoption agent in Prince Edward Island for private placement adoptions. This requires providing advice and counsel to the birth parents and assisting them in finding the most suitable home for the placement of the child. Kim also assists with the preparation of court documents and court appearances to finalize the adoption.
Corporate and Commercial Law
We have the experience and expertise to assist business owners and individuals with their corporate or commercial legal requirements. Practicing in this area of law has been a central focus of Birt & McNeill. We advise business clients on the best legal structure for new businesses, the transfer of ownership in existing businesses and in the preparation of incorporation documents. We also provide counsel on loan documentation and financing requests from lenders, and we can liaise personally with accountants and other involved financial advisors.
